Your office is more than a place to work – it’s a place where you spend a large portion of your day and it’s a space you share with your colleagues.
Given the current climate it is not enough to just clean the office, sanitising is necessary to maintain good health for yourself and your coworkers. Taking care of your employees always comes first so it is important that you do all you can to keep them healthy and safe.
1. Establish a Regular Cleaning Schedule
Cleaning is meaningless if you only do it on an ad hoc basis, individual and public spaces need regular cleaning and sanitising. Agree a schedule with colleagues that sees cleaning activity daily. Make sure to provide all the necessary cleaning products to get going. The first step to follow through with your goals is to plan and set dates and to get buy in from colleagues to execute.
2. Know the Different Cleaning Terms
Cleaning is very different from disinfecting or sanitising. Cleaning removes the surface dirt and germs, but these germs may still exist. Disinfecting means kill bacteria and spores that cannot be seen. Sanitising is the process of cleaning or disinfection to remove germs.
3. High Traffic Areas need more frequent Cleaning
When sanitising your office It does not make sense to focus most of your time cleaning areas that are rarely used. Find the heavy traffic zones where everyone’s feet or hands have been. Start by sanitising these areas, washrooms, kitchen surfaces, meeting rooms and frequent used items like water dispensers, phones, door handles, railings, elevators etc..
4. Use Sanitising Products
Sounds obvious right, and it is, the most commonly used product for sanitation is hand sanitiser, but there are many other options to use (especially if hand sanitiser is in short supply as it is now given the current climate). Other options are to use antibacterial soaps, antibacterial sprays and of course bleach is a really effective alternative.
